About Maskil Studio

The name is the promise.

Most studios are named for a person or a place. We named ours for a word — an old one, with a meaning we intend to live up to on every single job.

The meaning

What “Maskil” means

In the Hebrew of the Psalms, a maskil (מַשְׂכִּיל) is a song of skill and insight. The word grows from the root sakal — to be wise, to act with skill, to teach, and so to prosper. It stands at the head of thirteen of the Psalms, marking them as compositions made with care and meant to instruct — not thrown together, but crafted.

That is a high standard for a piece of writing. We thought it was exactly the right standard for a studio that people trust with the things that matter most — a funeral, a business, a name.

מַשְׂכִּיל

mas·kil

Hebrew · “skilful, insightful; a psalm of instruction”

“Whoever gives thought to a matter will find good, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.”
Proverbs 16:20

In the Hebrew, this verse opens with the very word — maskil: the one who acts with skill and insight.

What it asks of us

Four things a maskil must be

The meaning of the word is, quietly, the whole brief for this studio.

Skill

Work done properly, by a careful hand. A maskil was never a rushed or careless thing — it was made well. Neither is anything that leaves this studio.

Insight

Understanding the person and the purpose before the first word is written. We listen first — to the job, the family, the organisation — then we make.

Instruction

Passing on what we know so others rise too. It is why we teach AI in plain language, and why we explain our work instead of hiding behind it.

Prospering

The root of maskil means to act wisely and so to flourish. Our purpose is simple: to help good people and good work succeed.

A maskil was never careless. Neither are we.

Patrick Attankurugu, founder of Maskil Studio

The founder

Patrick Attankurugu

Maskil Studio was founded by Patrick Attankurugu — a senior AI/ML engineer from the Upper East Region. He is Chief AI & Engineering Officer at Agregar Technologies, a Ghanaian RegTech company, where he builds production AI systems — identity verification, fraud detection, compliance — for financial institutions across Africa, and he holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Ghana.

For a decade he lived and worked in Accra. In June 2026 he came home to the Upper East — to Bolgatanga — to start two things at once: the Ramah Upliftment Foundation, which serves widows, orphans and vulnerable children in the Nabdam District, and Maskil Studio. Both spring from one conviction: that world-class skill should serve his own region, not only the capital — and that the work people entrust to you should be done well, and done right.

“I wanted a studio my own people could be proud of — one that does the work properly, explains it honestly, and treats your business plan or your father’s funeral programme the way I’d treat my own.”

The business

Maskil Studio is a registered trading name of Azuma AI Innovations Ltd. It is a sibling to Azuma Innovations, our AI studio — Maskil Studio is the SME, individual and community-facing home of the same engineering.

Bring us something that matters.

Whatever you’re working on, we’ll treat it with the skill the name demands.
